How to start blender from the command line on an iMac
Google is an amazing resource when it comes to finding certain information but still, sometimes it takes a long time to find answers to the not so often asked questions.
Say you downloaded a recent blender compile from http://graphicall.org and save it on your desktop. After unpacking the dmg file you see a folder called something like: darwin-x86_64
If you need to start blender from the command line, go to Applications > Utilities > Terminal
Then type this:
yousername$ cd Desktop (now you should be at the desk top level which you can check by typing ls and the folder names and files the terminal lists are the same as on your desktop)
Then start blender by typing this:
username$ darwin-x86_64 (or what ever your folder is called)/blender.app/Contents/MacOS/blender and press enter
If you didn’t make a typo, blender should open faster than you can say 1 2 3
In case there is a better way to do this, let us know by posting a comment
